Zoomlion unveils digital payment platforms

A one million waste bin project meant to rid the country of filth has received a major boost with the introduction of three digital payment platforms.

The platforms, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code available on all mobile networks, the Zoomlion App and a revamped project website OneMillionBinProject.Com, is to aid the distribution of free waste bins to households and businesses in the country.

The digital platform is expected to enable customers to request for a free bin and thereafter access, monitor and seamlessly pay for their trash collection services.

Electronic payment

At the launch of the new platforms in Accra on November 30, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in-charge of Environment and Sanitation at Jospong Group, Mrs Florence Larbi, said the electronic payment platform was set to be a game changer in the trash collection business.

“The one million-waste bin project is a social intervention project by Zoomlion to help improve the lives of Ghanaians by correcting poor sanitation practices and developing a solid, seamless and efficient waste collection service delivery in the country.

“Our mission with the one million waste bin project is to provide proper storage and collection of solid waste at the household level so we can improve the solid waste management situation.

“Feedback so far indicates most people are delighted and are now practising proper waste management lifestyles,” she said.

Waste service delivery

For his part, the COO in-charge of Information Communications Technology (ICT) at Jospong Group, Mr Samuel Ofori-Gyampoh, noted that the new cash-free waste service delivery was powered by Nerasol.

He said it was the first step in an impactful journey to move the waste management sector from cash to electronic payments and bring convenience to the doorsteps of Ghanaians.

Starting today, any Ghanaian can digitally request for a bin in the one million waste bin project and conveniently pay for your trash collection service from the comfort of your home.

“Within 48 hours of requesting to get a free bin, Zoomlion personnel will contact you to deliver it,” he said.

He stated that Zoomlion was optimistic that the one million waste bin project would go a long way to significantly address the nagging issue of inadequate appropriate waste-bins for the storage of domestic solid waste.

“Customers should, therefore, utilise any of the e-payment platforms to start paying for your trash collection services by Zoomlion digitally,” he said.
