Breaking: Vessel carrying 2M oil barrels exploded off Nigerian coast [Video]

A floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) carrying about two million barrels of oil has exploded off the coast of Nigeria in the early hours of Thursday, February 3, 2022.

According to reports, the Trinity Spirit owned by Shebah Exploration & Production Company Ltd (SEPCOL)
exploded at the Ukpokiti oil field off Nigeria’s coast near the Escravos terminal close to the River Niger Delta.
Reports by Reuters News Agency suggested the vessel had ten crew members on board who are yet to be accounted for.

The Chief Executive of SEPCOL Mr Ikemefuna Okafor told the news agency that investigations were underway to establish the cause of the explosion while attempts to contain the situation were being made with help from local communities and Chevron, which has a facility near where the incident was said to have occurred.
