According to new data released Monday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), all of Michigan’s 83 counties are at the highest risk level for COVID-19 transmission.
Over the last week Sanilac County was upgraded from “substantial” risk of transmission to “high” risk of transmission.
Michigan’s other 82 counties have been at the highest risk level for at least a week.
CDC guidance recommends anyone in a community with “high” or “substantial” transmission wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
New cases of COVID-19 in Michigan have started to level off after three months of growth saw the average number of new cases per day jump from 110 to 2,870.
As of Aug. 1, just six counties in Michigan had a “high” risk of COVID-19 spread.
According to state data, so far more than one million people in Michigan have caught the virus and 20,898 have died since it was first detected in March 2020.
