The Failure of the Muslim Political Class in Ghana

0

In Ghana, we have a sitting Vice President who is a Muslim. We have Ministers of State who are Muslims. We have a sitting Supreme Court Judge who is a Muslim. We have Muslims who are Justices of the High Courts. We have Members of Parliament who are Muslims. We have lawyers who are Muslims. We also have leading political figures in both the NPP and the NDC who are Muslims.

Yet, in most of our Schools, our sisters and brothers are denied their fundamental human rights and religious freedom to practice their religion. The constitution of Ghana guarantees them these rights. We are not asking for rights that are not enshrined in the constitution. In fact these are rights entrenched in the Constitution of Ghana.

The Muslim political class and elite, and those with the influence to take on the system and correct this discriminatory practices are silent. Very sad and unfortunate.

Whatever power and influence you have as a Muslim, please be reminded that one day we will stand before Allah to account for how we exercised those powers, and how we used it to advance the cause of the religion of Allah.

Allah reminds us in the His Book that “Whosoever desires honour, power and glory then to Allah belong all honour, power and glory [and one can get honour, power and glory only by obeying and worshipping Allah (Alone)].” — Quran 35:10

Allah is watching all of us. May He continue to forgive us, Ameen.
