The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has handed a five-match ban and a GHȻ2000 fine to Aduana FC player, Emmanuel Gyamfi for misconduct.

The ex-Asante Kotoko player was charged with breaching Article 34(6)(d) of the FA’s disciplinary code having misconducted himself during his side’s betPawa Premier League game against Asante Kotoko at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park on New Year’s day.

According to the investigations by the Disciplinary Committee, the 28-year-old intentionally stamped on Asante Kotoko’s goalkeeper, Frederick Asare, in an off-the-ball incident, a behavior the committee described as improper and likely to bring the game into disrepute.

The player was also charged with breaching Article 12(1)(h) when he physically assaulted Kotoko’s Justice Blay after he had stamped on goalkeeper Asare.

Based on these offenses, the committee which was chaired by Osei Kwadwo Adow, was of the opinion the Aduana FC player should be made to pay GHȻ2000 and sit out for five premier league games.

In his defense, Gyamfi pleaded guilty to the first charge but pleaded not guilty on the second charge explaining that he did not assault Blay as indicated.

He explained that he was rather trying to free himself from the grips of Blay who attempted to restrain him from confronting goalkeeper Asare who had stamped him on the ankle during play which he considered endangering his career.

“At no point did I strike or assault Justice Blay. I was enraged by the action of Mr. Fredrick Asare who stamped on my ankle in the game and I reacted, Justice Blay rushed to me to calm me down because he saw I wanted to confront Fredrick Asare.

“In an attempt to stop me, he blocked my path and had me in grips as I desperately tried to wrestle myself from his grips and shrug him off. He actually helped me as he stopped me from making a possible mess out of myself.

“He is someone who knows me from our time together at Kotoko and he is a personal friend as well”, Gyamfi stated in his defense.
