Turkish Süper Lig club, Trabzonspor have confirmed that Caleb Ekuban has tested positive for COVID-19.
Ekuban has now become the sixth Black Stars player to contract the disease after international friendly matches against Mali and Qatar in Turkey.
The confirmation comes after the striker was hospitalised with symptoms of COVID-19.
“After our footballer, Caleb Ansah Ekuban returned to Trabzon from the Ghana National team camp on October 13, it was learned that his roommate at the camp tested positive for COVID-19,” a statement from Trabzonspor read.
“Our player, who was isolated and followed-up on the grounds that he was in contact with the positive case, was treated in the hospital with high fever complaints in the following days and the two PCR tests applied together were negative.”
“Our football player, whose last test was positive on October 17, 2020, was taken to home isolation and his treatment started,” the statement added.
Caleb Ekuban was one of the scorers in Ghana’s 5-1 over Qatar in Turkey.
However, he is not the only Black Stars player to contract COVID-19.
Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew has also tested positive for COVID-19.
TSG Hoffenheim defender Kassim Nuhu is also reported to have contracted the disease.
Celta Vigo’s Joseph Aidoo, Vitória S.C’s Gideon Mensah and Besiktas’ Bernard Mensah have also tested positive for COVID-19.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has, however, stated that it adhered to all COVID-19 protocols during the Black Stars’ international friendly matches against Mali and Qatar.
