Switzerland’s Patrick Schoen overcame battling Israel’s Eyal Shyovitz to win his 4th Junior’s title in Ghana.
Patrick won 6-3, 3-6,6-3 to secure back-to-back titles following his success in last week’s ITF J4 tournament at the National Tennis Centre, Accra.
Eyal took two chances to lead 3-1 final set but Schoen Patrick, ranked 205 in the world, struck back straight to level things up and managed to see out the remainder of the games to seal the victory and clinch his 5th career title.
“It’s very special for me to win here,” said Patrick. “I dedicate this victory to my mom because today marks her birthday.” “This one was the first one I felt I was actually playing well. Congratulations to Eyal and I’m sorry for today, but I’m sure if you continue you will have a lot of chances to win tournaments like this.”
In the girls’ singles event, Zimbabwe’s Rufaro Magarira claimed her first ITF J4 Accra title, beating Israel’s May Baranes 4-6,6-3,6-0 in a rollercoaster girls’ singles final to lift the prestigious Tennis Foundation Ghana ITF J4 title at the National Tennis Centre, Accra.
Korea’s Min Jae Kim and Nigeria’s Wilson Oswalele Igbinovia edged a two-set thriller 6-1,6-1 against Lucas Phanthala of France and Patrick Schoen of Switzerland to win Tennis Foundation Ghana Open ITF J4 Accra boys doubles title.
In just their second tournament together, Zimbabwe duo Sasha Natalie Chimedze and Tadiwanashe Eunice Mauchi beat Mia Liepert of Austria and Rufaro Magarira of Zimbabwe 6-3,5-7,10-8 to win the girls’ doubles title back-to-back.
