English-born Ghanaian, Callum Hudson-Odoi, has revealed that he was motivated to join Bayer Leverkusen because of their participation in the UEFA Champions League.
The 21-year-old forward sealed a season-long loan move to the Bundesliga side from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Hudson-Odoi spoke to Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz, who previously played for Leverkusen before making a decision on his move.
“The move to Germany is really exciting for me and I can play in the Champions League with Bayer 04 Leverkusen,” he told the club’s website. “That combination is really attractive and I’m keen to get to know the club, the fans and the Bundesliga. Kai Havertz only had good things to say about it to me in the Chelsea dressing room.”
Bayer Leverkusen have been drawn in group B alongside Porto, Club Brugge and Portuguese giants Porto.
Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to return to Chelsea at the end of his loan.
