Ghana Tennis Federation No. 1 Johnson Acquah’s Interplast Top 16 hopes ended with a three-set defeat to Atomic Tennis Club’s Samuel Antwi in the semi-finals.

The GTF No.1 was beaten 5-7,6-2,6-1 in 2 hours and 34 minutes.

The 2021 Accra Open champion Antwi will play Winneba based Japheth Bagerbaseh in Saturday’s final after Japheth beat Pascal Ziyab 6-0,6-2.

Antwi will get the chance to add a third title to his 2021 National Ranking Tour 1 and 2021 Accra Open titles

It still appeared that Antwi was the man in control but from 5-4, 40-15 he lost four straight points and Acquah roared in delight as he clinched the first set.

Acquah had chances to win second set to advance to the finals only for Antwi to get a grip with two superb lobs in the same rally. Antwi went on a run of seven games in a row to take the second and move 5-2. Antwi pulled Acquah from side to side before firing winners into the spaces down each line.

In the final set, Antwi made sure it was no contest, opening up with another forehand winner down the line as he raced 5-0 clear.

Acquah managed one final rearguard with a break of serve, before Antwi ripped his backhand winner of the evening down the line to secure victory.

In the ladies semifinals, Yvonne Bruce Tagoe takes on Annette Cruickshank after overcoming Tracy Ampah 5-7,6-4,6-1. Annette Cruicshank also ousted 2021 Accra Open ladies winner Akua Hansen 6-2 6-2.
