Dede Ayew Joins Qatari Club Al Sadd

Ghana captain Andre Ayew is expected to complete a permanent transfer to Qatari champions Al Sadd today.

The former Swansea City talisman is expected in Doha today to complete the routine procedures, followed by the signing of the contract and an official announcement.

The free agent is set to put pen to paper on a deal worth a reported $220,000 a month with the 2020/2021 Qatar Stars League champions who are coached by Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez.

“Al Sadd have reached an agreement to sign Ghanaian star Andre Ayew,” the Qatari club announced on social media.

“The player will arrive in Doha in the morning to complete the routine procedures, followed by the signing of the contract and the official announcement.”

When completed, the transfer will be the first time Ayew, 31, will be playing club football outside Africa and Europe.

After leaving Nania FC in his native Ghana, he has spent the last 12 years playing for European clubs including Marseille, West Ham, Fernabahce, and Swansea City.

He scored 35 goals in 106 appearances after rejoining Swansea from West Ham for an initial £18m transfer fee in January 2018.

Ayew originally joined Swansea on a free transfer from Marseille in 2015 and, after one impressive top-flight season in which he scored 12 goals in 35 appearances, joined West Ham for £20.5m.

He returned 18 months later in what remains a club-record deal but could not save Swansea from Premier League relegation.

Ayew spent the following season on loan at Fenerbahce, but came back to Swansea in 2019 and has ended the last two campaigns as boss Steve Cooper’s leading scorer.

His final appearance for the club came in the EPL play-off final defeat by Brentford at Wembley.
